Depth Is What AI Does Not Cover

Job titles describe the work less and less.

Someone on my team is mostly backend and also writes frontend, Python, and DevOps. The product managers on my team ship code.

Is that the proof that AI turns everyone into a generalist? I think it points the other way. A generalist with no depth is exactly the profile AI covers best. Specialisation is where a person is still the reason something turns out good, not the AI.

The practical line on my team is about scope, not skill. Adding a field to a serializer or making a small frontend fix should feel allowed for anyone. Re-architecting our matching service should not. Breadth got cheap. Depth is still the thing you get paid for, but execution can be owned more end to end.
