Skill Is The Axis AI Compresses

Skill is the axis almost every hiring and promotion decision runs on. It is also the axis AI is compressing fastest.

Commonly we grade employees on factors like skills, but also on coachability and engagement.

For me engagement means initiative and ownership. Coachability means someone can hear feedback, disagree, and still change their mind.

I think low coachability is the worst of all three, because it blocks everything else. Engagement can be improved through company culture and leadership / personal growth. Skills can be learned and improved.

What stays rare is to find someone who sees the problem before you hand it to them, and someone who can hear they are wrong and change.
