What you enjoy predicts how you feel about AI

I think what you enjoy about the work predicts how you feel about AI.

If the reward you chase is shipping something and moving it forward, AI feels like a gift. It clears out the slow parts and leaves you with more of what you actually wanted: things built and released.

If the reward you chase is the craft itself, polishing a small piece of code until it is exactly right, AI takes away the part you liked.

My honest take: for most software products, that second motivation was rarely the thing the business needed most. Polishing at small scale was probably never the priority it felt like and for sure will no longer be now / soon.

There are claims that AI written code falls apart past e.g. ten thousand lines, but that is mostly a skill issue of poor planning. Apply some proper engineering discipline (TDD, Reviews, Architecture etc) and proper setup and it really does not hold up.

So you need to get motivated about solving bigger things.
