Who Signs Off Matters More

You are paid for your accountability, not your execution.

A decent first draft is nearly free now. Code, a spec, an email, a slide deck. Anyone on my team can get one from AI in seconds. Producing the thing used to be the hard part. It isn't anymore.

So the value moved. It's no longer in making the draft. It's in judging whether the draft is right. Who signs off matters more than who wrote it.

My own job shifted the same way. I write less than I used to. I review more. That sounds like a small change, but it isn't. Reviewing well means holding a real opinion, one strong enough to tell a confident AI system it's wrong, even when the answer sounds polished and sure of itself.

That's harder than it looks. A bad human draft was easy to catch, rough grammar or a shaky structure. A bad AI draft looks clean. The mistakes hide behind good formatting.

None of this means accountability went away. It got concentrated. Fewer people produce the first version now. But someone still has to check it, understand it fully, and put their name on the outcome. That never got automated. It just landed on fewer desks, and mine is one of them.
